SweGaN, with origins in the technical faculty and the IFM department at Linköping University, manufactures wafers consisting of gallium nitride (GaN) on silicon carbide (SiC). Gallium nitride is a semiconductor material that can increase performance and reduce power consumption in radio base stations for 5G, enable higher bandwidth in satellite terminals, and improve resolution in military radar. SweGaN’s patented gallium nitride called QuanFINE is thinner than any other gallium nitride on the market and thus has higher performance. The fact that the layer is thinner also makes it somewhat cheaper to manufacture. QuanFINE thus has higher performance at a lower cost. SweGaN’s customers are semiconductor manufacturers, so-called foundries, who use wafers from SweGaN as base material to manufacture transistors and microwave circuits.
